About the Dos Locos
The Sutherland Engineering Dos LOCOS is a high-end, dual-mono transimpedance (current-mode) phono preamplifier designed specifically for low-output, low-impedance moving-coil cartridges. A stereo system uses two physically separate monoblock units—one per channel—while a single unit can be used for mono playback. Each chassis has a very simple control layout, with a front-panel power LED and internal three-position gain adjustment. Its transimpedance input operates effectively as a virtual short, sensing cartridge current rather than using conventional voltage gain and resistive loading. Sutherland specifies cartridges with less than 20 ohms of internal resistance; the Dos LOCOS is not intended for moving-magnet, moving-iron, or high-output moving-coil cartridges. Each unit provides two RCA inputs and two RCA outputs, allowing two cartridge feeds and/or connection to two downstream components. The manufacturer lists 120 VAC operation, with 240 VAC available by special order.
