About the TTS-8000
Released in 1977 during Japan's 'Golden Era' of high-fidelity equipment, the Sony TTS-8000 is a direct-drive turntable renowned for its authoritative, dynamic, yet fluid and musical sound. It features a brushless, slotless DC servo motor with a crystal phase-lock magnetic disk servo system that ensures stable and precise platter rotation. The 32 cm die-cast aluminum platter is damped and coated internally with magnetic barium ferrite for speed sensing. The turntable offers two speeds (33 1/3 and 45 rpm) with ±4% pitch control when crystal lock is disengaged. It includes an electronic brake for quick speed changes and stop. The plinth is made from Sony Bulk Moulding Compound (SBMC) for resonance absorption. The unit weighs 9.9 kg and measures 37 x 13 x 39.5 cm. It was sold either as a motor unit alone or with optional bases (TB-1000 or TB-2000). The TTS-8000 is highly regarded as one of Sony's best turntables, combining professional and domestic market qualities, and remains sought after for its sound quality and build.
