About the Series 20 PLC-590
The Pioneer Series 20 PLC-590 is a vintage audiophile-grade turntable manufactured in Japan from 1977 to 1979. It features a quartz direct drive system with a PLL Hall DC servo motor, offering speeds of 33 1/3 and 45 rpm with a pitch control range of ±6%. The turntable has a heavy die-cast aluminium platter (320 mm diameter) and a cast alloy plinth, weighing 14.5 kg without a tonearm. It is designed without a tonearm, allowing users to fit their preferred tonearm, with recommended models including the Pioneer Dynamic Absorber PA-5000 or SME Series III. The unit includes an analogue meter displaying quartz lock status, speed setting, and pitch adjustment level. It has a low wow and flutter of 0.025% WRMS and a signal-to-noise ratio of 75 dB, ensuring high fidelity playback. The turntable's dimensions are 490 x 185 x 406 mm, and it consumes 12 W of power. Its black matte finish and robust construction make it a sought-after component in the Pioneer Series 20 line, which also includes amplifiers, preamplifiers, and tuners. The PLC-590 was originally priced around 1,980 Deutsche Marks. It is no longer manufactured but remains highly collectible among audiophiles.
