About the CD 2 Alpha
The YBA CD 2 Alpha is a high-end CD player featuring an outboard power supply alongside a power supply on the main chassis, requiring two mains outlets. It uses a TEAC-made transport with a triple-lens laser mounted on low-friction metal rails, driven by a linear induction motor. The player includes a magnetic puck to clamp the disc for stability and employs dual 18-bit DACs designed in-house. It offers coaxial and TOSlink digital outputs, allowing use as a transport. The CD 2 Alpha is noted for its rich, holographic soundstage and well-proportioned imaging, though some users find the bass light and crisp. It is considered an objet d'art for audiophiles who appreciate both sound quality and unique design. The player is known for requiring specific handling, including use of supplied accessories and careful operation.
