About the C-4
The Yamaha C-4 is a vintage stereo control preamplifier, also described as a control amplifier, introduced around 1978. It provides two MM phono inputs and one MC phono input, with selectable cartridge loading for the MM inputs, plus tuner, auxiliary, and tape connections. Its features include a built-in MC head amplifier, tone controls with adjustable turnover frequencies, tone bypass, filters, a headphone amplifier, and two preamplifier outputs. The phono equalizer uses a low-noise circuit design intended to reduce noise when matching a cartridge.
