About the JMW 10.5i
The VPI JMW 10.5i tonearm is an advanced unipivot design that improves upon earlier 10- and 10.5-inch arms by incorporating a dual mounting design for enhanced rigidity and stability. It features a larger dropped counterweight to improve stability by placing more mass below the arm's pivot point, and uses Nordost Valhalla wiring for superior signal transmission. The arm allows precise vertical tracking angle (VTA) adjustment with a large knurled VTA tower that can be locked rigidly during playback, contributing to improved speed and bass detail. The azimuth ring includes larger side weights borrowed from the HR-X 12.7-inch arm for better stability. Fluid damping is available for cartridges that require it, such as Grado and Clearaudio. All parameters including azimuth, VTA, and anti-skate are fully adjustable. Optional balanced XLR output connections are also available. The arm is commonly supplied in a Special Edition (SE) rigid mount mode without on-the-fly VTA adjustment, offering most of the sound quality of the full JMW 10.5i at a lower cost. It is used on VPI turntables such as the Classic 1 and Aries 3, where it contributes to excellent speed stability, low noise, and high resolution playback. The arm length is 10.5 inches, and it is designed to be easy to optimize for any cartridge while maintaining a low center of gravity and high mechanical rigidity.
