About the Wheaton Decoupled Arm
The Wheaton Decoupled Arm was the original tonearm design introduced by Herb Papier at the 1981 Consumer Electronics Show. It used a decoupled arm-tube arrangement and was later renamed the Tri-Planar; the original model is now referred to as the Tri-Planar Mk. II. Historical descriptions of the later Tri-Planar design identify a medium-mass, damped, fixed-bearing radial-tracking arm with a fixed headshell, adjustable azimuth and vertical tracking angle, and a silicone-fluid damping trough. Specifications for later versions should not be assumed to apply exactly to the original Wheaton model.
