About the EPC-310MC
The Technics EPC-310MC is a moving coil (MC) stereo cartridge originally designed for the Technics SL-10 turntable. It features a pure boron pipe cantilever and a unique coreless twin-ring coil system that minimizes magnetic loss and distortion. The cartridge has a low output voltage of approximately 0.2 to 0.28 mV and a frequency response ranging from 10 Hz to 60 kHz, providing detailed and neutral sound reproduction. It uses a one-point suspension and a TTDD damper for precise tracking. The stylus is an elliptical diamond type with dimensions of 0.2 x 0.7 mil (5 x 18 µm), mounted on a boron needle carrier. The cartridge weighs about 6 to 6.5 grams and has an impedance of 30 ohms pure resistance. It requires a tracking force of 1.25 ± 0.25 grams. The EPC-310MC was manufactured in Japan between 1982 and 1986 and has since been discontinued, with the replacement stylus model EPS-310MC also no longer produced. It was originally sold for around 390 Deutsche Marks and is considered a rare and legendary P-mount (T4P) cartridge. The cartridge includes a built-in, bypassable MC step-up preamp in the SL-10 turntable to connect to standard RIAA phono inputs. Due to its low output, proper matching with a suitable step-up transformer or preamp is recommended for optimal performance.
