About the TA-E9000ES

The Sony TA-E9000ES is a surround preamplifier and home theater processor designed for high-fidelity audio performance. Manufactured in Japan from 1998 to 2003, it features a gold-colored chassis and weighs 12.8 kg. It supports 5-channel surround sound with digital decoding formats including Dolby Digital (AC-3), MPEG, DTS, and Linear PCM. The unit offers multiple analog inputs including PHONO with 5 mV sensitivity and 50 kOhm impedance, and various line inputs (TUNER, CD, MD/DAT, TAPE, TV, DVD, LD, VIDEO) with 250 mV sensitivity and 50 kOhm impedance. Digital inputs include coaxial and optical connections for DVD, LD, CD, MD/DAT, and TV sources. The frequency response ranges from 20 Hz to 20 kHz with a total harmonic distortion of less than 0.05% when bypassing sound field and equalizer circuits. Signal-to-noise ratios are 82 dB for PHONO and 94 dB for line inputs. Tone controls include bass, mid, and treble adjustments with fine gain level steps. The unit consumes 72 W of power and measures 430 x 150 x 387 mm. It includes a remote control and features a dampened chassis cover to reduce vibration noise. The TA-E9000ES is highly regarded for its clean power supply design using a Sony ES Stress Free Linear Rap Core Power Transformer and high-quality Nichicon 'Gold Tune' capacitors, contributing to its superior sound quality. It was originally priced around 3,200 Deutsche Marks and is no longer manufactured.
