The Sony SCD-XA5400ES is a premium ES-series SACD/CD player from the mid-2000s, renowned for its robust construction, dual-laser pickup system (one for SACD, one for CD), and twin R-core power transformers for low-noise operation. It supports multichannel Direct Stream Digital (DSD) output via HDMI (bitstream or uncompressed PCM), stereo SACD and CD playback including CD-R/RW, with gold-plated RCA and balanced XLR analog outputs, optical/coaxial digital outputs for CD, headphone output, and IR input. Features include SACD Text/CD Text, random play, direct track access, advanced servo mechanism, Super Audio D/A Converter, HATS technology on HDMI for reduced jitter in multichannel, and aluminum front panel for vibration reduction. It excels in SACD performance with bold, detailed sound and is also highly regarded for Redbook CD playback.
