About the 501
The Shelter Model 501 is a moving-coil stereo phono cartridge first released in 1990. The 501 family was subsequently revised as the Type II and Type III; Shelter identifies the Model 501 III as the latest development of the series. Its published Type III specifications include an aluminum-clad boron cantilever and an elliptical diamond stylus. The original Model 501 should not be confused with the later 501 II or 501 III variants.
