About the 301
The Shelter Model 301 is a low-output moving-coil phono cartridge. The current Model 301 II retains the model’s traditional MC design and uses an aluminum cantilever with a 0.65 mil conical stylus. Manufacturer-listed specifications include 0.4 mV output, 11-ohm impedance, 8.1 g weight, and a recommended tracking force of 1.5–2.2 g. Shelter’s history records the original Model 301 in 2006; the Model 301 II is a later version, so specifications for the II should not be assumed to describe every original Model 301.
