About the 9090DB
The Sansui 9090DB is a high-power stereo AM/FM receiver introduced around 1976 and produced through the late 1970s. It is rated at 125 watts per channel into 8 ohms from 20 Hz to 20 kHz with no more than 0.1% THD, using a full complementary output stage with eight output transistors. The receiver incorporates an analog AM/FM tuner, an onboard Dolby noise reduction circuit for decoding Dolby-encoded FM broadcasts and tapes, three-band tone controls (bass, midrange, treble) with defeat, two tape loops, and a moving-magnet phono stage. It provides direct-reading power meters for each channel, separate signal-strength and tuning meters, multiple line-level inputs, two pre-out connections, and three pairs of speaker outputs selectable individually or in combinations. The 9090DB is housed in a real-wood cabinet with a large brushed-metal front panel featuring a wide backlit tuning dial and 23 knobs, buttons, and switches. It is regarded as one of Sansui's flagship monster receiver designs of the era, noted for excellent sound quality, robust construction, and strong FM performance.
