About the R505
The REL R505 is the top model in the REL R-Series subwoofers, designed to augment full-range speaker systems with linear bass response down to below 20Hz. It features a sealed (closed box) enclosure with a 12-inch heavy-duty long-throw driver and a 500-watt Class D digital switching amplifier. The subwoofer offers versatile connectivity including a high-level Neutrik Speakon input, low-level phono inputs, and a dedicated .1/LFE input for home theater systems. Controls include separate gain knobs for high and low-level inputs, a variable crossover control adjustable between 25Hz and 100Hz, and a phase switch (0-180 degrees). The R505 incorporates REL's 'Set Safe' soft clipping protection to prevent driver overdrive and has power-saving features that put the subwoofer into standby when no signal is detected. The unit is built with solid aluminum feet and a control box mounted underneath the cabinet behind frosted glass. Dimensions are approximately 12.5 x 14.25 x 13.5 inches (WxHxD), and it weighs about 41 lbs (18.6 kg). The R505 is praised for its tight, musical bass and is suitable for both music and home theater applications. It is no longer in production but remains highly regarded for its performance and build quality.
