About the G2
The REL Acoustics G2 Sub is a closed-box, front-firing subwoofer equipped with a 10-inch (250mm) long-throw woofer made from carbon fiber, which ensures minimal weight, maximum stiffness, and exceptional speed. It is powered by a 450-watt Class A/B MOSFET amplifier with a large power supply, delivering ultra-high current for precise and dynamic bass performance. The G2 is capable of reaching a low-frequency response down to -6 dB at 18 Hz, providing deep bass extension suitable for both music and home theater applications. It features multiple input options including High-Level Neutrik Speakon, Low-Level stereo phono, LFE phono, and LFE XLR, along with corresponding outputs. The subwoofer includes a 4th order crossover set at the Dolby-mandated 120 Hz for LFE input, with a separate volume control to allow simultaneous reproduction of deep bass for main speakers and home theater signals without needing separate subwoofers. The G2 also offers a phase switch (0 or 180 degrees) and an 80 dB gain control range. REL emphasizes the G2's fast crossover filter network with a rise time of only 4 milliseconds, contributing to its detailed and natural integration with main speakers. The subwoofer is designed to augment the deepest frequencies rather than act as part of a sub/satellite system, but it performs well even when used with stand-mount monitors or electrostatic speakers by adjusting the crossover frequency. The G2 is praised for its ability to disappear into the soundstage, enhancing spatial cues and providing a natural, immersive listening experience without adding coloration or character of its own.
