About the SPU Mono A
The Ortofon SPU MONO A is a classic moving coil (MC) mono cartridge from the original SPU series introduced in the late 1950s. It features a rugged design with low compliance, suitable for high tracking forces up to 7 grams on microgroove 33s and 15 grams on 78s. Built around the same generator as modern SPU CG cartridges, it delivers a dynamic, textured, and engaging mono sound. Intended primarily for broadcast and professional use, it uses a two-pin mono bayonet mount and a short aluminum cantilever for accurate frequency response up to approximately 20kHz. This cartridge is no longer manufactured by Ortofon, but repairs are available, and used units can be found on the secondary market.
