About the MC 20 Super
The Ortofon MC 20 Super is a legendary low-output moving coil (MC) phono cartridge, first introduced in the mid-1970s and later updated in 1985. It quickly became renowned for combining relatively high compliance with a smooth, extended frequency response, making it a favorite among audiophiles seeking musicality and detail. The MC 20 Super features a Nude FG-70 stylus mounted on an aluminum cantilever, Wide Range Damping (WRD) technology, and a high-rigidity extruded aluminum body. The cartridge is finished in gold and often supplied with a high-quality adjustable aluminum headshell. Its sound is characterized by excellent treble and bass extension, with a midrange that is highly dependent on tonearm matching. The MC 20 Super is discontinued but remains sought after for its engaging sound and build quality.
