About the DR-1
The Nakamichi DR-1, introduced in 1992, is a discrete three-head, single compact cassette deck in a 4-track, 2-channel stereo configuration, running at a tape speed of 4.8 cm/s for standard cassettes. It uses separate record, playback, and erase heads and features a user-adjustable playback azimuth control for aligning playback to tapes recorded on other decks. The DR-1 supports Type I, CrO2, and metal tapes and includes both Dolby B and Dolby C noise reduction. Published specifications include a frequency response of 20 Hz to 21 kHz with metal tape, wow and flutter of 0.035%, and a signal-to-noise ratio of 72 dB with Dolby C. The deck measures 430 x 100 x 320 mm and weighs 5.4 kg, and is widely regarded by enthusiasts as one of Nakamichi's last high-performance cassette decks, noted for its stable mechanism and excellent sound quality.
