About the X10-D
The Musical Fidelity X10-D, known as "the missing link," is a pure Class A tube buffer equipped with two ECC88 (6DJ8) tubes. It is intended to be connected between a CD player and a preamplifier or between a preamplifier and power amplifier to impart tube-like tonal characteristics and improve the analog output stage. The device acts as an impedance-matching buffer, presenting a consistent load to the source and thereby allowing it to perform optimally. It enhances sound by adding richness, dimensionality, smoothing treble, and adding body to midrange and bass without adding distortion or altering frequency response. It is especially beneficial for budget CD players, making them sound closer to much more expensive models. The X10-D is housed in a compact chassis and powered by a 12V AC adaptor. It does not add gain but provides a subtle tube effect and improved dynamics. The unit is well-regarded for its engineering quality and sonic improvements in certain setups, though its benefits may be less noticeable with high-end CD players.
