About the Performance 860
The Performance 860 is a three-way floorstanding loudspeaker from Mordaunt Short's Performance series, released in the late 1990s. It features a 1-inch aluminium metal dome tweeter, a 5-inch midrange driver housed in its own ResinRock enclosure, and two 7-inch woofers. The cabinet is hexagonal in shape, constructed from ResinRock, a proprietary composite of resin and rubber, which adds mass and reduces resonance for improved sound clarity. The speakers are triwire/triampable but are often biwired in typical setups. Each speaker weighs approximately 26 kg (about 57 lbs). The design aims to deliver stunning sound quality with reduced coloration and internal standing waves. Originally retailed around £1900 per pair, they remain sought after for their performance and build quality.
