About the Tympani-1d
The Magnepan Tympani I-D is a classic dipole planar magnetic loudspeaker from around 1980, featuring three hinged panels per speaker: two bass/midrange panels and one tweeter panel. Known for its transparent sound, detailed imaging, and spacious presentation, it requires robust amplification due to low sensitivity and 4-ohm impedance. Common age-related issues include bass panel delamination or buzzing, but well-maintained examples deliver exceptional performance.
