About the MG-2.5R
The Magnepan MG-2.5R is a passive, floorstanding planar magnetic speaker with a 2-way design, featuring a 42-inch ribbon tweeter and a large Mylar diaphragm planar driver for midbass. It offers exceptional imaging, phase coherence, and high-frequency extension but requires careful room placement due to its dipole radiation pattern and power-hungry nature. Introduced in 1987 with a retail price around $1,695-$1,550 per pair, it is no longer manufactured and known for potential tweeter fuse issues and wire delamination in older units.
