About the SMGa

The Magnepan SMGa is a planar magnetic dipole speaker featuring a low mass 0.0005 inch diaphragm and a bi-polar design that eliminates cabinet coloration. It uses a direct-coupled driver without transformers, preserving subtle musical details and dynamic range. The SMGa is mirror-imaged for stable stereo imaging and has a flat impedance for ideal amplifier loading. It is the smallest and most popular model in the Magnepan lineup, designed for serious music lovers on a budget and works well in smaller rooms. It can be placed against a wall for background music or pulled out for full performance potential. The speaker is efficient and can be driven by smaller receivers or integrated into high-end audiophile systems. Available trims include oak, brass, or chrome with fabric colors off-white, black, or brown. Dimensions are 24-1/4" x 48-9/16" x 1-3/4" and it weighs 28 lbs. Frequency response is 50 Hz to 18 kHz ±3 dB, sensitivity is 90 dB at 1 watt/1 meter, impedance is 4 ohms resistive, and recommended amplifier power is 40 to 150 watts RMS. The SMGa is known for its superb power handling, accurate phase response, and linear power response with no dynamic compression.
