About the Wakonda
The Linn Wakonda preamplifier, introduced in the mid-1990s, is a compact, high-performance stereo preamplifier featuring microprocessor control, solid state input switching, and volume control technology. It supports six input sources, two line outputs, and outputs for two tape decks, allowing simultaneous recording and listening from different sources. A rare version includes a built-in phono input module for direct turntable connection without additional interfaces. The Wakonda is designed with upgrade flexibility to incorporate Sneaky modules such as a tuner or line driver/receiver, enabling integration into multi-room systems like Linn Knekt. It features a separate headphone output stage to preserve sonic integrity, silent electronic controls, and a neat internal layout with extensive surface-mount technology. The unit measures 320mm wide, 326mm deep, and 80mm high, weighing 3.7 kg, with a maximum power consumption of 20VA. It offers sensitivities for MM and MC phono cartridges and line inputs, with low distortion and a frequency response of 20Hz to 20kHz. The Wakonda was sold with a remote control and manual, and is no longer manufactured.
