About the Karik
The Linn Karik is a compact disc player and transport developed by Linn, featuring a four motor mechanism (Linn Mekk 001) and a triple beam laser pickup for reliable and high-quality playback. It operates to the highest level of Compact Disc specifications with advanced error correction, making it tolerant of imperfect disc quality. The Karik includes an internal digital-to-analogue converter (DAC), allowing it to function as a standalone CD player or as a transport when paired with the Linn Numerik DAC for enhanced performance. It supports multiple outputs including stereo audio outputs, S/PDIF digital outputs (75 ohm BNC and optical), and has CD-Sync input for master/slave operation. The unit is designed for long-term upgradeability and serviceability, with diagnostic outputs for laser performance monitoring and easy laser replacement. Dimensions are 320mm (W) x 80mm (H) x 325mm (D), weighing 5.3 kg. It comes with a remote control, mains cable, and manual. The Karik was produced from the early 1990s and is no longer in production but remains highly regarded for its warm sound and build quality.
