About the AV 5140

The Linn AV 5140 are extraordinary floorstanding loudspeakers designed to dramatically enhance audio and visual playback. Each speaker features a 20mm ceramic dome tweeter mounted on a diecast faceplate with ferrofluid-cooled voice coil for heat dissipation and high power handling. The midrange driver uses a rigid carbon-loaded polypropylene cone with an aluminium voice coil former and a long throw voice coil for low distortion. The bass driver is a 200mm rear-facing doped-paper woofer with a magnesium alloy diecast chassis for rigidity, a large high-efficiency magnet assembly for sensitivity and bass damping, and an aluminium voice coil former for heat dispersion. The enclosure is front-ported reflex with two tuned ports, one at the top facing backwards and one at the bottom facing forwards. The crossover uses high-spec audio grade capacitors and high current iron-dust inductors to prevent distortion, with heavy copper tracks and high strength glass fibre circuit boards to maintain signal integrity. Input sockets are soldered directly to the board to reduce contact resistance. The speakers have a frequency response of 30 Hz to 20 kHz (+/-3 dB), nominal impedance of 4 ohms, sensitivity of 90 dB for 1W at 1m (1 kHz), and require a minimum amplifier power of 60W into 4 ohms. Dimensions are approximately 980mm height, 170mm front width, 235mm rear width, and 320mm depth, weighing 21.5 kg (47 lbs). They are available in black ash or American cherry finishes. These speakers were originally part of Linn's AV51 system and are known for their natural reproduction of voice and music, providing an immersive cinematic experience.
