About the F7
The F7 is a low-power Class A stereo power amplifier from Nelson Pass' First Watt line, using a two-stage push-pull JFET/MOSFET topology with an unusually low parts count to emphasize sonic purity over complexity. It delivers about 20 watts per channel into 8 ohms and 30 watts into 4 ohms, making it ideal for efficient loudspeakers rather than difficult, low-sensitivity loads. The design employs a carefully tuned mix of very low negative voltage feedback and a small amount of positive current feedback, which lowers output impedance and improves control of reactive loudspeaker loads, contributing to its distinct sonic character. Like other First Watt products, it is hand-built in California in limited quantities and is voiced for musical, natural sound quality rather than chasing the lowest possible measurements.
