About the LS3/5a Gold Badge
The Falcon Acoustics LS3/5a Gold Badge is widely regarded as the best production LS3/5a ever made, hand-assembled in Oxford, England. It follows the original BBC design from 1976 and incorporates 12 years of research from the Kingswood Warren Special Edition. The speaker uses Falcon's own B110 bass/midrange driver and T27 tweeter, both handmade and graded in the UK to match the original BBC specifications. The crossover network is a Falcon-designed FL6/23 with enhanced transformer-style inductors, polypropylene film capacitors, and ultra-low inductance resistors, all hand-assembled in the UK. The cabinet is made from selected Baltic birch plywood with beech battens, finished in natural wood veneers such as cherry, walnut, rosewood, burr walnut, and yew. The LS3/5a Gold Badge delivers a detailed, natural tonal balance with a frequency response of 70Hz to 20kHz and a sensitivity of 83dB. It is known for its precise stereo imaging, tonal naturalness, and midrange clarity, making it ideal for classical and vocal music in smaller rooms. The speaker weighs 5.35 kg and measures 305 x 190 x 165 mm. It comes with a 5-year factory warranty and is sold in matched pairs only. The Gold Badge crossover upgrade offers lower distortion, improved bass, and better sonic tracking compared to previous versions.
