About the Comet
The Exogal Comet is a high-resolution digital-to-analog converter and preamplifier designed for audiophiles seeking a versatile and upgradeable DAC platform. It features a unique architecture using multiple DAC chips and a proprietary FPGA, allowing firmware upgrades and custom digital filters (one linear phase, two minimum phase, and one spline). The Comet supports PCM up to 32-bit/384kHz and DSD64/DSD128 formats, with asynchronous USB, AES/EBU, SPDIF, Toslink, and analog inputs. It offers balanced (XLR) and unbalanced (RCA) analog outputs, plus a headphone output, with simultaneous use of single-ended and balanced outputs possible. The single-ended outputs can be configured for stereo or center/subwoofer operation with programmable offset levels. Control is via a supplied remote or smartphone/tablet app over Bluetooth Low Energy. The Comet is designed to be the heart of a digital audio system, capable of driving power amplifiers directly with its high-quality output stage and digital volume control that maintains resolution at low levels. It also includes features like a USB charging port for mobile devices and trigger outputs for system integration. The unit is housed in a solid aluminum chassis and weighs 4.2 kg.
