About the D02

The Esoteric D-02 DAC uses eight 32-bit AK4399 DAC circuits per channel, wired together to achieve 35-bit processing resolution. It supports multiple digital inputs including XLR (Dual AES 8Fs), iLINK, USB (asynchronous up to 24-bit/192kHz), coaxial, and optical, with sampling rates up to 384kHz and native DSD playback. The DAC offers four selectable digital filters (two FIR and two short-delay/apodizing filters) and upconversion options including PCM to DSD conversion. It features a fully discrete Class A buffer amplifier with four circuits per channel and separate analog audio boards and power supplies for each channel, implementing a true dual-monaural configuration for excellent channel separation and soundstage. The D-02 includes a high-precision 32-bit digital volume attenuator allowing direct connection to power amplifiers, and output voltage switching for XLR outputs. The chassis is heavy and rigid to minimize resonance, with multiple isolated power supplies to reduce noise. The unit was introduced around 2011-2014 and has since been discontinued. It is highly regarded for its low noise floor, high linearity, and detailed, natural sound reproduction, making it suitable for the highest-end audio systems.
