About the Super Abbeys
The Super Abbeys are a high-end loudspeaker model from Cain & Cain, building upon the original Abby design. They use single-driver technology from Fostex, specifically the FF165W driver combined with a rear-firing Fostex T96A supertweeter to extend the frequency response into the top octave. The cabinet is a ported, modified Voigt pipe design, crafted from natural solid woods with traditional joinery, avoiding MDF or other fiberboards. The speakers stand 70 inches tall and 9 inches wide, with a sensitivity around 95-97 dB and nominal impedance of 8 ohms. The Super Abbeys are known for their coherent, smooth, and immediate sonic presentation, with a focus on subtlety, finesse, and emotional connection rather than sheer volume or bass extension. They are easier to drive than many other horn-loaded designs and work well with triode and solid-state amplifiers. The rear tweeter crossover is adjustable, typically requiring a larger capacitor for optimal performance. The speakers are available in several natural wood finishes.
