About the Yalo Bulala
The Blue Circle Audio Yalo Bulala is a plug-in surge protection module, not a full power conditioner or noise filter. It is designed to be used in conjunction with Blue Circle power line conditioners and filters (such as the PLC Thingee/FX-2 and other BC series units) to provide sacrificial surge and spike protection for the AC circuit where it is plugged in. Its protection scheme uses a TVS avalanche diode to clamp and absorb smaller voltage spikes and a MOV (metal-oxide varistor) that shorts during a large surge, forcing the branch circuit breaker to trip and disconnecting power to protect connected equipment. When a major surge event occurs and the breaker trips, the Yalo Bulala has completed its protective function and must be replaced to restore surge protection on that circuit. It provides a low-impedance path above a defined threshold voltage so that surge energy is diverted away from downstream equipment. The unit is intended to be plugged into a standard duplex outlet, power bar, or into a Blue Circle PLC product; it "sees" the surge before other devices on that outlet and sacrifices itself first. Multiple Yalo Bulalas can be deployed on different outlets of the same or different circuits to extend surge protection throughout a residence. Unlike Blue Circle's parallel noise filters and PLC units, the Yalo Bulala is not primarily an AC noise-reduction filter and does not claim non-current-limiting wideband filtration of audio/video line noise; its core role is surge and transient voltage protection that complements Blue Circle's conditioners.
