About the Alpha 2
The Berkeley Audio Design Alpha DAC Series 2 is an advanced digital-to-analog converter that builds on the groundbreaking original Alpha DAC with significant improvements in resolution, transparency, and soundstage. It supports input sampling rates from 32kHz to 192kHz and 24-bit word length. The DAC includes multiple digital inputs: AES/EBU on XLR, SPDIF on BNC (two inputs), Toslink optical, and BADA-encrypted RJ-45. It offers balanced analog outputs on XLR and unbalanced outputs on RCA. The unit features advanced clocking and isolation technologies for enhanced imaging precision and timbrel purity, along with unequaled interpolation technology that upsamples 44.1kHz CDs to nearly 176.4kHz quality. It supports HDCD decoding and includes multiple selectable digital filters. The DAC has digital volume and balance control with fine step adjustments and can be controlled via IR remote. It is designed for direct connection to power amplifiers and offers a dimmable display. The enclosure measures 16.5" x 1.75" x 10.4" with an optional 19" rack mount, weighs 9 lbs, and comes with a three-year parts and labor warranty. The Alpha DAC Series 2 is highly regarded for its musicality, detail retrieval, and value, with a price point of .
