The Aural Thrills MM/MC Phono Preamp is a hand-built, all-tube phono stage designed to work with any moving magnet (MM) or moving coil (MC) cartridge. It features a vacuum tube complement of 4 x 12AX7 tubes, with a gain of 50dB for MM and 60dB for MC cartridges. The preamp includes adjustable cartridge loading options, high-quality Mundorf silver/oil output coupling capacitors, Sonicaps and silver mica capacitors in the passive RIAA section, and Mills resistors. Electrolytic capacitors are used only for radio frequency filtering outside the signal path. The power supply is a linear design with a choke input on the 274B rectified power supply, enhancing sound quality. The unit offers a frequency response of 10Hz to 50kHz (+0/-1 dB), output impedance of 425 ohms, and a maximum output voltage of 20V at less than 1% THD. Signal-to-noise ratio is 50 dB for MC and 56 dB for MM, with channel separation greater than 50 dB across the audio band. The cartridge load impedance is variable for MC (200Ω, 510Ω, 1.2kΩ, 1.8kΩ) and fixed at 47kΩ for MM. The minimum recommended cartridge output is 0.4 mV for MC and 1.5 mV for MM. Power consumption is approximately 20W. The phono preamp is praised for its detailed, natural sound and is custom-built in the USA. The standard price is with an upgraded version
