About the 88 A4
The Audiopax Model 88 A4 is a Brazilian-made, single-ended Class A1 tube monoblock power amplifier. The A4 is a later generation of Audiopax’s Model 88, a design introduced in 2001. Each monoblock uses two KT88 output tubes and two 12AT7 driver tubes in Audiopax’s proprietary twin-amplifier arrangement, with series-connected output transformers and no global negative feedback. Its Timbre Lock controls allow the output-tube bias relationship to be adjusted to tune the amplifier’s interaction with a loudspeaker. Published specifications vary slightly by source and version; the manufacturer’s manual gives a 14 Hz–100 kHz response, while other Model 88 listings report 14 Hz–90 kHz.
